Janssens Cognitive Biases and the Development of Mental Functioning: Implications of the Brain for Health and Disease: Implications of the Brain for Health and Disease By: C. Crespi and J. Janssens This paper reviews an extensive literature review of theories and evidence for the cognitive effects of age. It focuses not only on theories and findings, but also on the ways in which people use cognitive thinking to make different decisions about life and their own well-being. Specifically, it reviews evidence on theories of individual differences, general cognitive abilities, and intelligence and how these may interact with one another, and how this may lead to a range of mental problems, such as, cognitive bias, which is a propensity to favor certain kinds of information, and/or biases towards things one does not want to think about. It also considers the way in which attitudes regarding age, and how the two shape one's thinking and behavior, may influence how individuals may use cognitive thinking in ways that are relevant for health and disease.
